synopsis "even odd even” is the artistic interpretation of a time and space based analysis of a video feedback* and delivers an insight into a fascinating world of spatial complexity and dynamic behavior. “The vision is drawn in a highly suggestive way to a pulsating pattern of black and white lines. By the rhythmic movements of these bar codes, permeated by a thick carpet of sound, the vision glides at times as in picture puzzles into a new spatial dimension ... “ (Gunnar Landsgesell) It concerns the focused center of a video feedback (1:18 min), with very fast moving image content. To be able to experience not only the fascinating flow of information, but also the content and correlation in more detail, the video feedback is decomposed into its essential parts – the alternate successive odd and even fields, each lasting 1/50 second. Separated from each other, newly ordered and their speed manipulated, various sequences are created which are placed in relationship to the original video feedback. synopsis deutsch „even odd even" ist die künstlerische Interpretation einer auf Zeit und Raum basierenden Analyse eines Video Feedback und gibt Einblick in eine faszinierende Welt räumlicher Komplexität und dynamischen Verhaltens. „Der Blick wird auf hoch suggestive Weise in ein pulsierendes Muster von schwarzen und weißen Linien gezogen. Durch die rhythmisierten Bewegungen dieser Strichcodes, imprägniert durch einen dichten Klangteppich, gleitet der Blick zuweilen wie in Vexierbildern in eine neue räumliche Dimension ab ...“ (Gunnar Landsgesell) Es geht um das fokussierte Zentrum eines Video Feedback* (1:18 min), dessen Bildinhalt sich in enormer Geschwindigkeit verändert. Um zu erkennen, was vor sich geht, wird das Video Feedback in seine essentiellen Teile zerlegt – in die abwechselnd aufeinander folgenden ungeraden und geraden Halbbilder, jeweils 1/50 Sekunde dauernd. Voneinander getrennt, neu geordnet und in ihrer Geschwindigkeit manipuliert, entstehen verschiedene Sequenzen, die mit dem ursprüngliche Video Feedback in Beziehung gestellt werden. Scheinbar Verborgenes wird in einem Prozess ästhetischen Erlebens sichtbar. |

| "en ... Even the screening strategy contributes to the production of images; a monitor is ideal: The immaterial dimensions of depth become tangible in the `afterglow´. A projection alters the visual experience. (the light’s direction varies: it either emanates from a surface or shines onto it). And then there is this acoustic carpet which fuses with the visual suggestions until we hear images and see sounds. All this can (possibly) be described with utter precision: but the pulsating en abime – fall into our own depths of experience holds a secret that reminds us of a fragile beauty which hurts. |

Die Bilder, die
Barbara Doser produziert, stürzen in ihre
eigene Tiefe. Und in
unsere. Da ist beides: die kompromisslose Präzision der Materialaufnahme und -analysebedingungen und – nicht synchron aber ganz gleichzeitig – eine Bewegungspoesie und etwas Nicht-Beschreibbares, das sich in Wahrnehmungsraum und –zeit zwischen Monitor und Auge immateriell als interlace manifestiert: Sehsog. Hypnose, Farbwahrnehmungen, kreisender Atem, Stille. Im Fall von even odd even sind obere und untere halbe Frames in (nach einer genauer Grammatik) variierten Sequenzen kombiniert. Die numerische Fülle des Materials ist unendlich. Auch die Abspielstrategie hat Teil an der Bildproduktion: ein Monitor ist ideal: im „Nachleuchten“ werden die immateriellen Tiefendimensionen wahrnehmbar. Eine Projektion verändert das Seherlebnis. (Das Licht ist unterschiedlich gerichtet: es strahlt aus oder auf eine Fläche.) Und dann ist da noch dieser Klangteppich, der sich mit den Bildsuggestionen vermischt: wir hören Bilder und sehen Klänge. Das alles ist (vielleicht) präzise benennbar: aber das pulsierende en abîme Stürzen in die eigenen Erfahrungstiefen bewahrt ein Geheimnis, das mit einer Schönheit zu tun hat, die weh tut." | * Video feedback is a technology known since the 1960´s (Skip Sweeney). A video camera is directed towards a monitor to which it is connected recording the light from that monitor and sending it back to the monitor simultaneously. Through that feedback abstract images come into being, which can be manipulated by the ambient light and by adjusting the control devices (focus, zoom, brightness, contrast etc.) | * Video Feedback ist eine seit den 60erJahren bekannte Technik (Skip Sweeney), bei der eine Videokamera auf einen Monitor gerichtet wird, mit dem sie auch verbunden ist. Sie nimmt das Licht am Monitor auf und sendet es gleichzeitig wieder zum Monitor zurück. Durch diese Rückkoppelung entstehen abstrakte Bilder, die durch das Umgebungslicht sowie durch Steuerung der Geräte (Fokus, Helligkeit, Kontrast etc.) manipuliert werden können. | ||
